Fun Fall Activities for Families

After a long hot summer, people are ready to celebrate fall and everything that the new season brings with it.  There are many fun family fall activities that are great for all ages and relatively inexpensive, even for a large family.  As the leaves begin to change and the days get cooler, add these exciting ideas to your calendar.

Spend time outside enjoying the weather!

Colorful leaves and cool air make fall the perfect time of year to get out and explore. After school, make time to take a walk with your family before the winter cold comes in. If you’re into something more athletic, organize a football or soccer game in your backyard or at a local park.

Visit a farm and see what’s in season

Particularly in the South Jersey area, there are many local farms which host weekend hayrides and pumpkin and apple picking. After your farm visit, take time to cook as a family using whatever seasonal foods you picked up. It’s the perfect bonding activity, and you get to enjoy a delicious treat in the end!

Get crafty

On days where the weather may not be ideal, organize a fall-themed craft for your family to work on together. Crafts are great ways to practice positive communicate with family. Pumpkin painting and leaf rubbing are simple enough for young children to complete with the help of an adult. Older children may be interested in learning how to crochet fall accessories like scarves. Let your family’s creativity shine!

Check out what’s going on in your town

Most towns or counties have fall festivals, which typically include games for kids and food and drink vendors for adults.  Visit your town’s website to see if there is anything on their calendar over the next month. There are also great places in our communities to learn about local resources and participate in fall-themed workshops.  Visiting your local Family Success Center is an affordable way to discover fall family activities as well. You can find fall themed events like family cooking nights, Halloween parties, parent child painting, and more. FSC’s offer free family programming and welcome everyone. To learn more about the Family Success Centers operated by Robins’ Nest and what each Center has planned for the fall, visit the FSC page on our website: https://robinsnestinc.org/programs/family-success-centers/
