Summer Fun: Family Activities and Day Trips in the Tri-State Area
Summer is the perfect time to create unforgettable family experiences. Whether you're looking for simple outdoor activities or exciting day trips, we've got you covered. Let's dive into some great ideas to make your summer special!
Simple Outdoor Activities for the Whole Family
Have a Picnic: Pack a lunch or order your favorite takeout and head to your local park, or simply enjoy it in your own backyard. Take this time to talk and relish your meal without distractions, all while soaking in the summer sun.
Go Camping: Spend the weekend by the campfire, fishing, and swimming in the lake. Unplugging from the world is a fantastic way to deepen connections with each other. With activities that are fun for both adults and children, camping offers a chance to create lasting memories.
Drive-in Movies: The nostalgia of drive-in movies is making a comeback! Watch a great film from the comfort of your car for a delightful change of scenery and a unique movie night experience.
Remember, family time fosters strong emotional bonds, improves communication skills, and creates cherished memories. Be sure to check Acenda's Family Success Centers for community activities near you this summer.
Day Trip Recommendations from Acenda Employees
Looking for some inspiration for day trips in the tri-state area? Our employees have some great suggestions:
New Jersey Lighthouses: "I love taking a tour of all the different lighthouses that NJ has to offer! I never knew NJ had so many. You could even try to tackle The Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey, which this year they have their 25th anniversary coming up on October 19th and 20th, 2024!" Lancaster, PA: "I love a great day trip to Lancaster. There are so many great thrift stores within a short distance that you can always find some kind of treasure at as well as cute little shops at Kitchen Kettle Village. It's so nice and peaceful driving down the roads looking at the horse and buggies, kids playing in the yard and long lines of clothes hanging out to dry. I like to finish off my trip with a nice dinner at one of the biggest buffets, Shady Maple."
Hershey Park, PA: "For families, I highly suggest Hershey Park! With the Hershey spa for the parents and making your own candy bar for the kids, it's a great choice."
Ocean City, NJ: "My favorite day trip is going down to the Boardwalk at Ocean City NJ! I love walking up and down it and visiting all of the amazing mini golf courses! There are so many awesome places to get a slice of pizza, I was recently recommended Prep's Pizza and it's my new favorite."
