How do I know if counseling is right for me?
Counseling can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, stressed, or struggling with life changes, relationships, grief, trauma, or other emotional challenges. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If you’re unsure whether counseling is the right fit, our team can help determine the services that best meet your needs.
What can I expect during my first counseling appointment?
Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and discuss your concerns, goals, and personal history. Together, you’ll talk about what brought you to counseling, ask questions, and begin developing a treatment plan that reflects your unique needs and goals. There is no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable discussing.

How will my therapist determine the best treatment approach?
Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to understand your concerns, strengths, and goals before developing an individualized treatment plan. Throughout therapy, your treatment may be adjusted as your needs change to ensure you receive the support that best promotes your mental health and overall well-being.
Is everything I share during counseling confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is important to us. Information shared during counseling is kept confidential in accordance with applicable laws and professional ethical standards. Your therapist will explain confidentiality, including the limited situations in which information may need to be shared to protect your safety or the safety of others.
Can I choose between in-person and virtual counseling?
Yes. Depending on your needs and your therapist’s availability, counseling may be offered in person or through secure virtual appointments. During your intake, we’ll discuss the options available and help determine the format that best fits your schedule and preferences.
What if I need a different level of care?
If your therapist determines that another level of care would better meet your needs, they will discuss their recommendations with you and help connect you to the appropriate services. As an integrated healthcare organization, Acenda offers a wide range of behavioral health programs and can help coordinate your care when additional support is needed.
How will I know if counseling is helping?
Throughout your time in counseling, you and your therapist will regularly review your goals and discuss your progress. As therapy continues, you may notice improvements in your ability to manage stress, cope with challenges, strengthen relationships, improve emotional well-being, and achieve the goals that are most important to you.
