Receiving Services
After being accepted to Adult Supportive Housing, you will interview with the director and staff, after which meetings will be arranged on a month-to-month basis, depending on your needs. Clients must engage with supportive staff at least once per month, must follow the terms of their leave, avoid being evicted, pay their portion of rent, and maintain residency as required.

Moving Forward with Care
Once you have been enrolled in Adult Supportive Housing, you will receive vouchers for your residence. Vouchers are considered Permanent Supportive Housing, and do not end without forced closure (non-compliance or eviction) or voluntary termination.
FAQ’s
How can I refer a family member?
Most outreach programs are familiar with the referral process to the Continuum of Care via the form https://www.nj.gov/humanservices/ddd/assets/documents/individuals/ccp-waiting-list-request-form.docx. Acenda outreach staff can assist those appropriate with the referral process as well.
How long is the voucher for?
Acenda provides scattered-site and site-based vouchers that are considered permanent in nature. As long as a client remains compliant with the program, the voucher is ongoing.
Where can I use this voucher?
All vouchers must be used within the boundaries of Cape May County.
Is there a cost to participate in Adult Supportive Housing?
Adult Supportive Housing case management services are provided at no cost to eligible participants. Individuals are responsible for paying their required portion of rent based on program guidelines and their income. Your case manager can explain your financial responsibilities and help connect you with resources to support long-term housing stability.
What types of support will I receive after moving into housing?
Supportive Housing provides more than a place to live. Your case manager will work with you to develop goals, connect you to mental health care, healthcare, benefits, employment resources, transportation, and other community services. The level of support is tailored to your needs and helps you build the skills and stability needed to maintain permanent housing.
Can family members or other supports be involved in my care?
Yes. With your permission, family members, friends, or other trusted supports can be involved in planning and coordinating services. We encourage collaboration whenever it supports your goals and well-being while always respecting your privacy and personal choices throughout the process.
What happens if my needs change after I move into supportive housing?
Your needs may change over time, and your support plan can change with you. Your case manager will regularly check in, reassess your goals, and connect you with additional services or resources as needed. Our goal is to help you maintain stable housing while supporting your overall health, independence, and long-term success.
Do I need to receive mental health treatment to participate in Adult Supportive Housing?
Yes. Adult Supportive Housing is designed for individuals living with a disabling mental health condition. While the housing program does not provide mental health treatment directly, participants are expected to engage in recommended behavioral health services and work with their support team to help maintain housing stability and achieve their personal recovery goals.
