Expectant and Parenting Youth Program
Acenda’s Expectant and Parenting Youth Program (EPY) provides safe, supportive housing for young adults ages 18–21 who are expecting or parenting and have current or past involvement with the child welfare system and have had housing instability. The program offers a stable living environment along with individualized support to help young families build independence, strengthen parenting skills, and work toward long-term stability.

Eligibility
To be eligible for Expectant and Parenting Youth services, you must:
- Be 18-21 years old
- Be pregnant or a parent
- Be homeless or at-risk of homelessness
- Currently or previously in custody of DCP&P for at least one day in your life
- Participate in a Meet & Greet
What to Expect

Getting Started
Program services are accessed through the Department of Children and Families Office of Housing & Department of Child Protection & Permanency. Referrals from eligible youth will come through this office.

Initial Meeting
After the referral is received, the expectant and parenting youth will be contacted by phone and/or email to schedule a Meet and Greet.

Moving Forward with Care
The expectant or parenting youth will be partnered with an Independent Living Coordinator (ILC) who will offer guidance and support completing a DCA (New Jersey Department of Community Affairs) housing voucher application and applying for housing in either Mullica Hill or Blackwood, NJ. The ILC will also work with the young adult to develop life skills needed to successfully maintain their housing and enhance their wellbeing.

How long after enrolling can I expect to start services?
Services begin once the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) housing application is mailed to the DCA office.
Is there a cost for your program or services?
No, there is no cost for the program, however, DCA (New Jersey Department of Community Affairs) requires tenants to pay a portion of their monthly income towards rent. .
Is this service in person, virtual, or both?
Services are provided in person and virtually and can be both group and individual, in the home and in the community.
How often will I meet with my Independent Living Coordinator?
You will meet with your ILC once a week for a minimum of 1 hour, or additionally as needed.
How long can I receive services?
You can continue receiving services as long as you remain in good tenant standing and maintain a Section 8 housing voucher.
How do I qualify for services?
