Fun Winter Activities for Families

Fun Winter Activities for Families

The winter has arrived and that means frigid temperatures with snow and ice covering the ground. Whether you enjoy being outdoors or just keeping warm inside by the fireplace, there are many fun family winter activities that are great for all ages and relatively inexpensive, even for a large family.  As the snow begins falling and the thermometer reads 30 degrees, add these exciting ideas to your calendar.

Spend time outside enjoying the fresh air!

Skiing, snowboarding and ice skating are wonderful outdoor activities for the whole family. Whether a beginner or advanced, a trip to the mountains for winter sports is always a great way to stay active. And, don’t forget a cup of hot chocolate afterwards to warm up!

Go Sledding

Hop on your sled and head down the hill in your own backyard or neighborhood.  Kids and parents alike can enjoy sledding.  It is great exercise and gets everyone out of the house and into the fresh air.

Bake cookies

A great activity when you want to stay warm indoors is to bake a batch of cookies. Kids love to help out in the kitchen, so make it a family affair.  They can participate in decorating the cookies and helping to mix the batter.  And, your house will smell so good after they come out of the oven.

Declutter your home

If you’re stuck inside due to a snowstorm, why not take the opportunity to declutter your home and get organized. Whether it’s a closet that is filled with old clothes or memorabilia or organizing your computer files, you will feel a sense of accomplishment from getting rid of old items or setting things up in an orderly fashion.

Play board games

Whether with family or friends, playing board games is a fun way to pass the time.  If you have kids, why not introduce them to some of the board games you played as a youngster?

Catch up on your sleep or read a book

It seems like nowadays we are all so busy, with little time to sleep. Here’s your chance to catch up on the sleep you are craving by taking a short nap during the day. Curl up by a fire, read some chapters of your favorite book, and just relax. When you wake up, you will feel refreshed and ready to begin the day again!
