Keeping Family Spirits Up While Staying at Home

Keeping Family Spirits Up While Staying at Home

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading across the country, most of us are adhering to CDC and government recommendations to stay at home to reduce the spread of the virus.  While this may sound like a great idea, after a few days we can all start to get a little stir crazy, especially with the whole family home.

As physical distancing and self-quarantining are highly recommended, we've got you covered on ways to occupy your time and spark some joy at home, without spending hours watching the news on television. It is a great opportunity to spend quality time with family.

1. Get out those board games and start playing.  Monopoly, Scrabble, Operation, just to name a few.  It’s always a great way to pass the time.

2. Cook a family meal: With our busy schedules, it’s sometimes hard to make a big meal for the family. If you have stocked up on food, prepare a nice meal that all of the family can contribute to.

3. Read: Encourage your children to get some books off of their shelves and read.  Parents should do it too.  It’s a good way to spend some alone time. If your children are too young to read on their own, read books to them.

4. Spring cleaning: Tidy up those messy closets or rearrange the kitchen pantry. Ask your kids to help out by straightening their rooms.  We could all use some organizing this time of year.

Remember to follow the CDC guidelines including  washing your hands often, if available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, be mindful of physical distancing by keeping at least 6 feet away from another person, and iyou or anyone else in your home is sick, stay home except to get medical care.  Take care of yourself. But overall, don't lose sight of what you are grateful for during this challenging time.
